Palazzo delle Papesse pays homage to the great cartoonist Hugo Pratt, twenty years after the last Sienese exhibition and in view of the centenary of his birth, with the largest monographic exhibition ever dedicated to the artist. From 11 April to 19 October 2025, in Siena, the “Hugo Pratt. Geografie Immaginarie” exhibition, through three hundred works including original plates, ink drawings and watercolours, masks, objects, large reproductions and an engaging display with digital installations and scenography, tells the universe of one of the greatest designers, among the first to transform comics into an expressive medium with artistic and literary value. Known to the vast public for having brought to life the iconic sailor and “contemporary Ulysses” Corto Maltese, the author will be remembered with the exhibition produced by Opera Laboratori and curated by Patrizia Zanotti and Patrick Amsellem of the Cong company which manages and promotes all of Pratt’s artistic heritage. The installation curated by architect Giovanni Mezzedimi was created by Opera Laboratori and will incorporate the entire Palazzo della Papesse, starting from the courtyard, on the first and second floors up to the roof terrace.

“Hugo Pratt. Geografie Immaginarie” is a visual journey through the images of Pratt’s archetype, which reconstructs the author’s entire career and the birth of his best-known character. A rereading of the artist made starting from his origins and then retracing his evolution, from the famous comic strips to his extraordinary watercolours, to the continuous references to literature and cinema always present in his works, to his unforgettable female and male characters, to the places of his time and the influence of pop art. All told in the Renaissance rooms of Palazzo delle Papesse, also through multimedia supports that make visitors’ approach to the author immediate through projections on the walls, films and also two immersive rooms.
